Description:


The District of Columbia Public Library was created in 1898 by an Act of Congress. It was set up as an independent agency that would serve as the “people’s university.”

 

Commission membership: 

Each of the 9 members of the Board shall be a resident of the District of Columbia, and shall have a demonstrated interest in the public library.

 

Qualifications:  

DC resident with interest in improving D.C. public libraries

 

Time commitment:  

The Board meets on the fourth Wednesday of every other month.
