Consumer members play an important role by serving on District health profession licensing and occupational licensing boards. Representing the interest of all District residents and visitors who find themselves as a patient or a client of a healthcare professional, consumer members work alongside healthcare professionals with the support of board staff to foster excellence in our medical facilities, build quality and safety in our healthcare systems, and protect the health of our communities. This can include evaluating the qualifications of license applicants, reviewing complaints against medical professionals and facilities, issuing advisory opinions on how to comply with regulations, or contributing to reports on healthcare experiences, outcomes, or goals.Please review the requirements listed below, and apply if you are interested in a mayoral appointment to serve as a consumer or public member position for a health board or commission.

LACTATION COMMISSION
- Be a resident of the District at the time of appointment and while serving
PERINATAL AND INFANT HEALTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE
- Be a resident of the District at the time of appointment and while serving;
- Have children under the age of 5 years
HEALTH OCCUPATION BOARDS
Consumer members for the Health Occupation Boards listed below are subject to the following requirements:- Be at least 18 years old;
- Not be a health professional or in training to become a health professional;
- Not have a household member who is a health professional or is in training to become a health professional;
- Not own, operate, or be employed in or have a household member who owns, operates, or is employed in a business which has as its primary purpose the sale of goods or services to health professionals or health-care facilities.

The boards and commissions listed here have in-person meetings that range from monthly to quarterly.If you are interested in an appointment to a health board or commission as a healthcare consumer, please complete the appointment application and attach the required documentation.
